Mansholt Graduate School is specialized in social scientific analyses of the rural areas and the agri- and food chains. Chains and rural activities are, however, part of a much wider institutional area. Recognizing institutional issues, and using these as starting points for theoretical and empirical research, are some of our activities. The necessity of co-operation and integration with technical disciplines is becoming clear, particularly when it concerns the transformation of agriculture, rural areas and chains towards multifunctional and sustainability
