Lecturers: Prof. C. Humphrey and Prof. R. Scapens Aim: Case studies are increasingly being used in many disciplines, and it is recognised that case research can be powerful in developing, modifying and extending theory in both exploratory and explanatory research designs. This course focuses on case study research and the roles of case studies in different methodological traditions in the fields of management, organisation, and accounting. It will cover the characteristics of good case research design and issues relating to writing-up the results of case research. Literature: The participants will receive a reader with relevant literature in advance of the course. Preparation: Participants are expected to submit a one-page summary of their research; identifying the nature of the research issues, the research methods adopted, and progress to date. It will be assumed that all participants are familiar with contents of the reader. In addition, groups of students will be asked to read a specific case research paper before the course and be prepared to discuss it in class. Requirements: The course is aimed at researchers in the fields of management, organisation, and accounting. Date: Venue: Het Kasteel, Kraneweg, Groningen. Tuition Fee (for non-SOM participants): 500 euro (including accommodation, literature, lunches and one dinner). If you are interested in participation in this course please send an email to SOM’s secretary Astrid Beerta (a.beerta@rug.nl). |
