The outline of the course is as follows:
Session 1: the semi-structured interview (Jeurissen);
Session 2: the case study (Nijhof);
Session 3: the Behavioural based Interview and Critical Incident Method (Nandram);
Session 4: the factor analysis model (Van Montfort);
Session 5: the path model (Van Montfort);
Session 6: the complete SEM model (Van Montfort).
Session 7: Feedback session on SEM, for those researchers working with SEM
Sessions 1 to 3 will deal with the a number of popular and effective forms of qualitative research. Both the data-collection and the analytical methodology will be explored. Examples of real research conducted by the instructors will be used to illustrate the methodology. In the first session a widely accepted 8 steps approach for building theory from case study research will be discussed and applied to a study on decision making in organisational change.
Session 4 to 6 (7) will deal with Structural Equation Modelling or SEM. This has become a main statistical tool in many fields of science. It is the standard approach of factor analytical and causal modelling in such diverse fields as economics, management, marketing and finance.
The quantitative part of the course will give an introduction to the theoretical statistical aspects of SEM as well as the computer software package LISREL. After the three sessions the participants may apply the SEM modeling approach to real data, for instance the data of an actual research project. Finally, in an additional session, which is facultative, every participant may present the results of their SEM analyses.
Each lesson will have the following structure:
1st part: theory
2nd part exercise, assignment
3rd part: feedback and discussion |
